Psychological Evaluation

Psycho-Educational Assessments can help identify potential problems. For those experiencing learning challenges, or attention and concentration difficulties.

The Testing Center's cognitive and intellectual evaluations can help inform you about cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Results from the tests are fully explained to you during a scheduled feedback session.

Our aim is to help you understand symptoms and the kinds of treatments or follow-ups that can improve your functioning.

We assess attention problems, learning difficulties, and also offer a personality assessment. We can provide specific recommendations to help you find accommodations that work best for you.

What is Psychoeducational Testing?

Psychoeducational testing involves the use of standardized tools to assess how an individual performs on a variety of tasks. These tests are administered in the same way to thousands of people, allowing us to compare an individual’s results to others of the same age, gender, and educational background. This comparison helps us understand how the brain is functioning and where strengths or challenges may lie.

The evaluation typically covers a wide range of areas, including intelligence (IQ), memory and learning, attention and concentration, executive functioning, language skills, social abilities, and emotional or behavioral functioning. By gaining insight into these areas, we can provide accurate diagnoses along with tailored recommendations for treatment, academic supports, or workplace accommodations.

The Testing Process: What to Expect

Our comprehensive testing process typically takes place over three appointments to ensure thorough, accurate, and personalized results.

1. Intake Appointment (60 minutes)

During this session, we’ll conduct a clinical interview to gather essential background information about your development, current concerns, and goals for testing. This is also a time to answer any questions you may have about the process and discuss any preparations needed.

2. Testing Appointment (4–6 hours)

On testing day, you will first be welcomed into the testing space to help you feel at ease. Once you're comfortable, we’ll begin the assessment. Testing includes breaks for snacks and lunch, to maintain your energy, motivation, and focus. Most assessments are completed in one visit, but a second appointment may be scheduled if needed to ensure the most accurate and valid results.

Please remember:

  • Bring snacks and lunch.

  • Ensure you have a good night’s sleep before testing.

  • If you are on medication, we’ll discuss whether you should take it on the day of testing during the intake appointment.

3. Feedback Appointment (60 minutes)

After testing, you'll meet with your clinician for a detailed discussion of the results and initial recommendations.

4. Written Report

A comprehensive report will be provided within 30 days of your feedback session. It includes:

  • Developmental history and intake information

  • Results from all assessments and questionnaires

  • Diagnostic conclusions (if applicable)

  • Personalized recommendations and referrals
